What is weight management?
Our is a weight management works by acting on receptors in the brain that control your appetite, causing you to feel fuller and less hungry. This may help you eat less food and reduce your body weight.
It should be used in addition to diet and exercise for adults aged 18 and above who have
- a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater (obese) or
- a BMI of 27 kg/m2 and less than 30 kg/m2 (overweight) and weight-related health problems
- (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal levels of fats in the blood or breathing
- problems during sleep called ‘obstructive sleep apnoea’).
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of your weight in relation to your height.
What is it?
This treatment helps you achieve a sustained and healthy weight loss, with ongoing advice and support alongside a prescription medication treatment. The weight management works to decrease your appetite and therefore reduce food intake.
It's a daily treatment, which used alongside a calorie-controlled diet and increased exercise, has been shown to help patients lose weight. As well as being prescribed the medication, you will have ongoing support from our team to help you maintain your weight loss.
We want to help you stay well, from managing your prescriptions to supporting you in healthy lifestyle choices. One of the ways we can all be proactive in managing our health, is to eat well, get enough exercise and maintain a healthy weight. This is because an unhealthy lifestyle can lead to a number of health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease.
You’re eligible for the Weight Loss Service if:
- You are aged 18 to 75
- You have a BMI of over 30
- Or a BMI of over 27 but have been diagnosed with a condition that is made worse by weight gain such as a heart condition
It is administered using a pre-filled pen with needle to self-inject on a daily basis.
Our practitioners will show you how to use the pen at your consultation. It is very simple and painless to use, and you will be provided with a sharps bin to dispose of needles.
A treatment plan of your dosages will be provided for you after assessment with a timeline of your bespoke treatment.
