Anti-wrinkle injection aftercare instructions

If you are new to anti-wrinkle injections and you have just had your first treatment, you may be wondering what you should avoid, so that you can make sure you get the best results from your treatment.

If you are a patient at Dr Linea Medical in Ipswich, we will have gone through all the aftercare with you at the time of your anti-wrinkle injection appointment, however sometimes patients who have had their first anti-wrinkle injections, may want to double check the aftercare advice.

In this article we will take you through all of the instructions, so that you can be confident you will get the full effects of your anti-wrinkle injections.

Don’t touch the injection site

The first thing you want to avoid after an anti-wrinkle injection treatment is touching and rubbing the area that has just been injected. The Botox injection will have been strategically placed to get your desired results and rubbing and massaging the area could make the product move into a different position. It is best to not touch where you have been injected for 24 hours to give the product time to settle.

If you need to wash your face it is best if you can wait a few hours after the injections before you do this, and make sure you are very gentle when doing so.

Avoid the gym

For 24 hours after your treatment we would advise that you don’t go to the gym or take part in any strenuous exercise. Excessive movement from strenuous exercise will increase your blood flow and that could lead to swelling or bruising, it could also have an impact on the product moving into areas where it shouldn’t be, which could impact the results.

Avoiding the gym includes not visiting a sauna, steam room, spa or anywhere you may come into contact with excessive heat. This is because heat can increase your blood flow which can disperse the product and affect your results.

Don’t drink alcohol

This advice is also a pre-care instruction. It is best to avoid alcohol for 24 hours post treatment, as well as 24 to 48 hours after your treatment. When you have anti-wrinkle injections your body will have a natural inflammatory response. Alcohol can make this response worse and can lead to swelling or redness. It may also lead to you feeling discomfort or heat in the areas where you have been injected.

Botox injection aftercare for sleeping

It is best to stay upright for at least four hours after treatment. We wouldn’t recommend lying down straight after treatment and especially not sleeping on your face. Again, this is to allow the product to settle in the right place and will make the results of your treatment look better.

Book an anti-wrinkle injection review appointment

After your treatment it will take time for the results to start to show. Your aesthetics provider should invite you back into the clinic after a two week period so that they can check that the results are as expected. If you have followed the aftercare instructions your anti-wrinkle injections should look great, but sometimes it may require a little tweak, which is why it is important to attend your review.
